TOKYO -- A new service in Japan backed by trading house Itochu and telecommunications group KDDI will match shippers with delivery trucks having excess space, Nikkei has learned, in a bid to boost efficiency in the understaffed logistics sector.

The two companies will be joined by Toyota group member Toyota Industries and real estate developers Mitsui Fudosan and Mitsubishi Estate to start a joint venture in fiscal 2024.
