NAGOYA -- Central Japan Railway is making a multi-pronged effort to draw more international visitors to its Tokyo-Osaka bullet train line, from broader foreign-language support to private compartments, as it faces a critical point in its post-pandemic recovery.

Ridership on the Tokaido shinkansen slumped during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic but rebounded sharply in fiscal 2024, led by tourism. This growth is expected to abate in fiscal 2025.
