TOKYO -- Japan will expand support measures next year to encourage the increased use of empty passenger aircraft space as well as the use of articulated trucks, Nikkei has learned, part of a drive to reduce the environmental impact of the transport sector.

Up to now, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has been focused on a modal shift by having more cargo shipped by rail or by sea. But the scope of the effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will be expanded.
