TOKYO -- Plans for a using a novel type of energy transport ship were announced on April 24, not one that hauls oil or natural gas, but a vessel that transports electricity in batteries.

Tokyo-based startup PowerX announced the memorandum of understanding with TEPCO Power Grid and the city of Yokohama on using PowerX's "battery tanker" to transport electricity from an offshore wind farm to the Yokohama waterfront, where it will be linked to the power grid.
