BANGKOK/YANGON -- Foreign nationals purchasing tickets for domestic flights in Myanmar must reckon with higher base fares, listing prices in different currencies, and an array of exchange rates that risk tripping up conversions.

An expat in Myanmar was shocked when he entered a plane ticket from Yangon to Mandalay into expense management software and saw the converted price: more than $300 for a one-hour, one-way flight.
