TOKYO -- Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen will work with a domestic industrial waste processor to create a facility in Japan for dismantling vessels safely, looking to promote recycling of the highly pure iron used in shipbuilding.

NYK Line, as the company is better known, recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Oono Associates for a joint study. The dismantling will be carried out at a dry dock owned by Oono in central Japan's Aichi prefecture near Nagoya. The site also will have facilities for incinerating industrial waste to generate electricity.
