HANOI -- Hanoi residents are embracing its new urban rail line for commutes and outings after weeks of frenzy over its long-awaited opening.

Hanoi Metro began commercial operation on Aug. 8 of an 8.5-kilometer stretch of Line 3 that runs above ground between Nhon Station and Cau Giay Station. Construction on the line's 4-km-long underground section, which will connect Cau Giay to Hanoi Station, is still ongoing.
