HOUSTON, Texas -- The U.S. has announced the cancellation of a $63.9 million grant for a Texas bullet train using Japanese shinkansen technology amid soaring costs and a shifting political environment.

The funding was for passenger rail company Amtrak, which was cooperating on the project to link the cities of Dallas and Houston in the southern state.
