NAGOYA, Japan -- Just two decades ago the Takeshima Aquarium in Gamagori, Aichi prefecture, was on the verge of shutting down. Now, after years of focused efforts to attract visitors -- including a newly unveiled deep-sea wing in October -- its popularity is being rekindled.

Director Ryuji Kobayashi has worked hard to captivate visitors by showcasing Gamagori's abundant deep-sea creatures from a unique perspective, such as a giant tank displaying massive Japanese spider crabs.
