KAWASAKI, Japan -- A unique tourism promotion combining a video game franchise and a boat tour of one of the industrial districts on the Tokyo outskirts has been a hit.
The pricey but popular night boat tour along the coast of the factory-heavy Kawasaki area in late November was based on the popular Final Fantasy video game. The municipal government was betting on the excursion to promote night tourism and attract foreign travelers. It seems to have gone over well.
