Guinness-record light show returns to Osaka despite power crunch

Facing cold winter, economy minister asks homes to use energy wisely

Midosuji Avenue, one of the main streets in central Osaka, is illuminated during the year-end holidays.

OSAKA -- The city of Osaka has once again turned on its record-holding winter light display this year, even as the central government pushes energy conservation.

The Midosuji Illumination, which is running from Nov. 3 to Dec. 31, has been staged along iconic Midosuji Avenue every year since 2009. Guinness World Records recognized it for the "most illuminated trees on a single street" in 2015.
