HONG KONG -- Hong Kong International Airport started fully implementing a system that allows it to simultaneously operate three runways on Thursday, with plans to expand terminals and other related facilities in a bid to meet anticipated rising demand.

But the city's expanded transportation infrastructure kicks off under a very different geopolitical environment than when it was made official in the early 2010s. This week, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened to slap additional heavy tariffs on imports from several countries, with some of the highest on those from China.
