TOKYO -- Japanese travel agency JTB is segueing into a future in which it will rely less on tourists for revenue and more on the destinations working to attract them.

"We are hoping to become a business that creates opportunities for interaction," said President and CEO Eijiro Yamakita in an interview with Nikkei Asia. Its main service has been arranging travel for individuals and groups, but the decision to pivot was "accelerated by the [COVID-19] pandemic," Yamakita said.
