TOKYO -- Domestic travelers in Japan are expected to spend a record 41,000 yen ($278) per person in the upcoming New Year's holiday period, travel agency JTB announced Tuesday, with many seeking to make up for lost time from COVID-19 despite surging prices.
Domestic travelers for the period, which runs from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3, are seen growing 4% on the year to 28 million -- 96% of the pre-pandemic figure from the 2019-20 holiday season.
