Japan's 1st casino looks to copy Singapore's success

Osaka resort counts on gambling revenues but faces capacity limits

TOKYO -- Japan is placing a huge bet that a casino resort planned by Osaka will replicate the success of similar venues in Singapore, but the lofty economic ambition comes with the challenges of operating a gambling house.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the so-called integrated resort is important for Japan's pursuit of becoming a "tourism power house" on Friday, the same day the government approved the casino plan.
