FUKUOKA, Japan -- The southern Japanese city of Fukuoka's Tenjin district, known for its bars and noodle shops, is trying to broaden its nightlife by turning cultural assets into destinations for international corporate travelers.

In early November, about 100 travel industry representatives gathered at the four-century-old Kego Shrine for a trial event to attract incentive travel -- trips organized by companies to reward outstanding employees. Some of the representatives were from Southeast Asian travel agencies.
