TOKYO -- Hospitality group Hoshino Resorts will launch a Japanese-style hotel with a hot spring in the U.S. in 2028, the company said on Thursday, turning abroad for opportunities as competition heats up at home.

"When you look ahead to the company's future in 20 to 30 years, we need to establish facilities and a firm foothold in North America, the center of the hotel industry," CEO Yoshiharu Hoshino said in an online news conference announcing the plan.
