MIYAZAKI, Japan -- Miyazaki prefecture, on Japan's southernmost main island of Kyushu, is leveraging anime and manga for tourism promotion through public-private partnerships. One such initiative is in the mountain-ringed town of Takachiho, nestled in the prefecture's northwest, which is attracting fans from around the world of the popular anime "Oshi No Ko" with a campaign featuring limited-edition merchandise.

To broaden its appeal beyond the current 30 to 50 age group that makes up the majority of its visitors, the prefecture is embracing oshikatsu, or fan activities, by anime and manga lovers.
