Japanese hotels get on track with new attractions for railway buffs

Metropolitan installs cab simulators in rooms, Hilton turns suite into carriage

JR East is introducing train simulators in rooms in five of its Metropolitan Hotels chain operated by the group’s Nippon Hotel.

TOKYO -- Targeting fanatical railway buffs in a country already famous for themed hotels, some leading Japanese chains are offering new accommodation experiences that include genuine train cabs and carriage-themed suites.

JR East, the main railway operator in eastern Japan, is introducing train cab simulators at selected properties this month.
