NAGO, Japan -- A jungle theme park opened in Okinawa on Friday to crowds of eager visitors from both home and abroad, in a bid to capitalize on Japan's surging tourism growth.

Converted from a golf course, Junglia Okinawa sits on roughly 60 hectares -- the size of 84 soccer pitches -- integrating more than 40 attractions, shops and restaurants into the surrounding nature.
