TOKYO -- Luxury hotel group Mandarin Oriental is opening three new hotels in Japan as part of an ambitious expansion focused on lesser-known destinations.
The Hong Kong-based multinational's choice of western Japan's Setouchi, a region that includes picturesque islands in the Seto Inland Sea, fits its strategy of promoting relatively undeveloped "hidden gems," its group chief executive told Nikkei Asia.
