NAGOYA, Japan -- With the World Expo in Osaka set to kick off in April and more international events to follow, the hotel industry in Nagoya, the heart of the nearby Chubu region, is scrambling to add more space to accommodate wealthy foreign travelers.
Tapping demand from the Expo, then next year's Asian Games in Aichi prefecture and an annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank, will be key to revitalizing foreign tourism in the region. Inbound passenger traffic has been slower to recover at Chubu Airport than other major airports in Japan.
