Osaka beats out Tokyo to draw record Chinese tourists on Expo boom

New flights and eased visa rules help bring visitors to Japan's western city

OSAKA -- Osaka is on track to draw record numbers of Chinese visitors in the first half of the year, with increased flights and Expo 2025 Osaka boosting traffic to the city.

A total of 1.27 million people from China visited Osaka in January-March, up roughly 90% on the year to a quarterly record, topping the number of Chinese visitors to Tokyo.
