SINGAPORE -- Think of a resort destination in Asia and Singapore likely doesn't come to mind as easily as Bali or Phuket, but two major hotel operators are showing visitors a more nature-rich side to the city-state.

Singapore-based Banyan Group opened its first hotel in its home country this April with Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree. The hotel sits within the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, a northern sanctuary that houses the Singapore Zoo, the Night Safari and three other zoological parks. Overlooking a reservoir, the hotel is nestled in a secluded rainforest filled with lush greenery and abundant wildlife.
