PAI, Thailand -- A town in northwestern Thailand finds itself at the center of a misinformation controversy targeting Israelis that has cast a pall over the Southeast Asian nation's critical tourism industry.

Pai, home to nearly 40,000 people in the mountains of Mae Hong Son province, has become a popular destination for its natural beauty and ancient temples. The streets and restaurants appeared busy with visitors from around the world during a visit in early March.
