Multilingual websites are key for Japan

TOKYO -- The e-commerce market is rapidly expanding across Southeast Asia. Unlike e-commerce markets in developed nations, the Southeast Asian market sees many purchases conducted on foreign websites.

Tomohiko Mototani

Tomohiko Mototani, a senior consultant of the Asian Business Development Division at Daiwa Institute of Research, surveyed e-commerce users in five major Southeast Asian countries -- Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam. He recently spoke with The Nikkei Business Daily about how Japanese companies should approach business opportunities in Southeast Asia's e-commerce market.
