TOKYO -- Unicharm has rolled out the world's first line of nursing care products for dogs over the age of seven. The company began selling a package of four products, under the new brand Unicharm Pet Pro, in cooperation with veterinary drugmaker Kyoritsu Seiyaku.
The products are available through some 9,000 animal hospitals in Japan. The package comes with a nursing mat, absorbent sheets, body wipes and a cleanser. It is expected to retail for around 18,000 yen ($172).
The nursing mat is made of material that distributes the animal's weight, helping to prevent bed sores for bedridden dogs. The absorbent sheets are designed to breathe better than those now on the market and to keep the animal dry. The cleanser contains soap made from sunflower seed oil and completely removes dirt from the fur, maintaining healthy skin.
Dogs over the age of seven are considered elderly. According to Unicharm, 300,000 dogs in Japan over the age of 15, or 18.5% of the total, are unable to stand.
