With India interested, Japan's bullet train export venture faces hurdles

TOKYO -- Japan's rail industry is hopeful its long-term dream of exporting bullet train technology will finally come true in India. The one hurdle now is convincing East Japan Railway, or JR East, to join the venture and ensure its success.

     Industry optimism rose after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official visit to Japan in September. While here, Modi mentioned the bullet train during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
