World's largest LCD maker accelerating shift to OLEDs

SEOUL -- LG Display, the world's largest LCD panel maker, plans to invest 850 billion won ($718 million) to convert some of the LCD production lines at its Paju factory into lines that can be used to make large OLED panels for televisions.

The decision shows that the unit of South Korean giant LG Electronics is accelerating its shift from the market for LCD panels, now flooded with products from Chinese makers, to the new market for OLED panels, where it can stand out.
