Asustek Computer, based in Taiwan, is one of the world's major PC makers, with total assets of over $11 billion. It manufactures not only PC components and notebook computers but also tablet PCs, servers and smartphones. As a leading electronic technology company in the industry, it has more than 11,000 employees worldwide.

Facing fierce competition in the PC market, the company has been strengthening its smartphone business, hoping to boost growth. Asus launched its ZenFone smartphone brand in 2014 and it became one of the region's best-selling smartphones. The company targets total smartphone shipments of 17 million units in 2015, double 2014's tally. Asus also plans to expand the "Internet of Things" and cloud computing sectors by entering the wearable device market with a new smartwatch brand.

Chairman Jonney Shih has led the company since 1993 and also served as CEO until 2008. He is known as the father of the netbook low-cost and lightweight PCs, which revolutionized the PC market in 2006. Asus became the world's top global notebook brand. Shih is the largest individual shareholder in Asus, with a 4% stake.
