Company Background

CLP Holdings is one of Asia's largest electric power companies. It is based in Hong Kong and has total assets of more than $27 billion. The company supplies electricity to 80% of Hong Kong's population. Since 1979, it has been investing in mainland China. CLP generates electricity from coal and nuclear plants and has become one of the largest independent power producers on the mainland. Today, it is focused on renewable energy and high-efficiency coal generation.

The company is also investing in other overseas markets. It regards India as a primary growth market and has gas and coal plants there. CLP also operates Hong Kong's biggest wind power plant project. In southeast Australia, CLP operates integrated energy businesses, supplying electricity to more than 2.6 million customers. It is also working on smart-grid technology in Australia.

Chairman Michael Kadoorie and his family holds around 28% stake in its holdings company. Kadoorie also leads Hong Kong-listed The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, which focuses on the development and management of luxury hotels, including the Peninsula brand. The company also has commercial and residential properties in Asia, the U.S. and Europe.
