Company Background

Government-controlled Mega Financial Holding was founded in 2002 after the merger of International Commercial Bank of China and Bank of Communications, two of Taiwan's longest-standing financial institutions. The Taiwanese government was at the time encouraging local financial institutions to incorporate their various services into holding companies to scale up their operations and become more efficient and competitive.

To this day, Mega still plays an important role in Taiwan's financial market. It is a key foreign currency supplier and a major currency trader for Taiwan's central bank. It relies on banking for most of its profits. Like other Taiwanese financial services companies, Mega has been expanding across the region.

Mega Chairman Mckinney Tsai holds a master's degree from the department of public finance at Taiwan's prestigious National Chengchi University. Previously he was the executive vice president of Bank of Communications, and he also served in various roles in the public sector. He once served as deputy director general of the bureau of monetary affairs under the Ministry of Finance.
