Company Background
State-owned Semen Indonesia is Indonesia's largest cement producer. The company claims more than a 40% market share and produced 25 million tons of cement in 2013. It also has mineral mining and real estate businesses. Previously known as Semen Gresik, Semen Indonesia was the first state-owned company to go public in Indonesia. In 1991, it listed its shares on the Jakarta Stock Exchange and Surabaya Stock Exchange, which later merged to form the Indonesia Stock Exchange.
Dwi Soetjipto, who joined the company's subsidiary, Semen Padang, in 1981, was appointed president of Semen Indonesia in 2005. He will complete his second five-year term in 2015. During his tenure, Semen Indonesia has stepped up efforts to expand into neighboring markets, acquiring a cement producer in Vietnam in 2012. The move was praised as one of the first major overseas acquisitions by a state-owned company. Semen Indonesia also plans to set up a factory in Myanmar.
