StarHub Ltd.
Company Background
StarHub offers a full range of information and communications services to both corporate and individual customers in Singapore, including fixed-line telephone services, a mobile network, a multichannel pay TV network and broadband Internet services. The company was created in 1998 by a consortium led by Singapore Technologies Telemedia, a unit of Singapore's state-owned investment firm Temasek Holdings, as a part of telecommunications market liberalization efforts at the time. StarHub officially launched operations in 2000, and was listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange in 2004. Temasek Holdings is the largest shareholder of StarHub, with a majority stake, followed by Japan's Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT).
Tan Tong Hai was appointed CEO in 2013. Prior to joining StarHub in 2009 as chief operating officer, Tan held management positions at various Internet-related companies, including IBM Asia Pacific. In the face of heated price competition especially in broadband services, StarHub is adding new services to encourage the bundled use of services across different devices. One of such efforts is StarHub's "TV Anywhere" service which allows pay TV subscribers to watch TV programs on their Internet-enabled mobile devices.
