Abe looking to boost number of foreign, female workers

TOKYO -- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called for the government to expand the role of foreigners and women in the workforce in order to combat the severe labor shortage afflicting Japan.

"I want the utilization of foreign talent to be robustly advanced," Abe said during Friday's Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy meeting. He also told relevant ministers to gain a detailed understanding of the labor situation and to "boldly tackle the issue."
