Asian visitors drive record tourist spending in Japan

Vietnamese, Chinese travelers fuel upswing in arrivals, revenue

Visitors to Japan are spending more than ever, with department stores like this Takashimaya in Osaka among the beneficiaries.

TOKYO -- Spending by visitors to Japan jumped 15% on the year to 3.27 trillion yen ($29.1 billion) through September, topping 3 trillion yen in the nine-month period for the first time as Asian tourists in particular remained willing to open their wallets.
