BANGKOK -- Relations between an Australian mining company and the Thai government are embroiled in a legal battle over the closure of a gold mine in Thailand, a case that foreign companies with investments in the country are watching closely.

Kingsgate Consolidated ceased operations on Jan. 1 at the Chatree gold mine in the northern Thai province of Phichit a few weeks after an order to do so by the military government in December last year.
