DHAKA -- Almost every week, officials at international airports in Bangladesh find gold hidden in passengers' clothing and belongings, or stashed in the toilets and other nooks and crannies of incoming aircraft.
Much of the smuggled metal is destined for India. It is used to accommodate surges in demand, such as before the Divali festival Oct. 23. En route, it finances a vast trade in cows from largely Hindu India for consumption on Bangladesh's Muslim feast days.
