BOJ survey signals first decline in Japan business mood in a year

Tankan quarterly assessment comes as Trump tariffs roil global trade

TOKYO -- Business sentiment among large Japanese manufacturers declined slightly in the first three months of the year, the Bank of Japan's latest Tankan survey showed on Tuesday.

The headline diffusion index (DI) was at plus 12 for the period, compared with plus 14 in the previous quarter, declining for the first time in a year. The median forecast in a QUICK survey of economists was plus 12.
