TOKYO -- At his farewell news conference, Bank of Japan Gov. Haruhiko Kuroda on Friday appeared to lay the groundwork for an eventual tightening of his ultra-easy policy.

"It is entirely possible to pursue an exit strategy while keeping the financial system in a stable condition," said Kuroda, who finishes his second five-year term on Saturday, when he hands the reins to Kazuo Ueda.
