HONG KONG -- China's retail sales expanded at the fastest pace in eight months in October, suggesting recent stimulus measures have brightened consumer sentiment.

Total retail sales of consumer goods, a gauge of household spending, were up 4.8%, helped by a strong performance in the auto sector, according to data published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday.
