China's trade surplus with US expands 14% in January-June

The imbalance widens despite Washington's demand that Beijing cut it

BEIJING -- China's trade surplus with the U.S. jumped 14% from a year earlier to $133.7 billion in the January-June period, despite U.S. demands that Beijing take steps to reduce the imbalance.

Exports to the U.S. totaled $217.7 billion for the six-month period, up 14%. Imports came to $84 billion, up 12%.
