BEIJING -- China recorded a deficit in foreign investments for a second straight quarter during the three months ended September amid ongoing pressures from a slowing economy.

Outflows of foreign direct investments exceeded inflows by $8.1 billion in the third quarter, according to data released Friday by China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange -- an indication that companies are spending less on factory construction, acquisitions and other projects in China than they have recovered from downsizing operations.
