Corporate Japan cautious on outlook amid fear of protectionism

Exporters fear changes in trade policies worldwide, especially in US

TOKYO -- Business sentiment among large Japanese manufacturers improved in March from three months ago, but remains cautious about the future amid uncertainties overseas, the Bank of Japan's Tankan survey revealed on Monday.

The headline index for big manufacturers' sentiment -- and the figure most closely watched by economists and the financial market -- stood at 12 in March, an improvement of two points from December's survey.
