East Asian universities climb higher in global rankings

Investment in education creates 'rising tide' of quality in the region, says THE

LONDON -- China's elite institutions continued to rise through the ranks, taking the top spot for Asia in this year's Times Higher Education World University Rankings, while Japan became the second-most represented country on the list with its top universities making strides.

China's Tsinghua University made a rapid ascent to become 22nd in the world, up from 30th last year and overtook National University of Singapore at 23rd, as well as other well-known institutions such as the London School of Economics and Political Science and New York University.
