New Philippine central bank governor sets sites on casinos

Nestor Espenilla, who becomes governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in July, will promote provincial banking and go after money launderers.

MANILA -- Nestor Espenilla, the incoming Philippine central bank governor, promised on Tuesday to make the financial system more relevant to the broader economy and to combat fraud during his six-year term.

Following his appointment on Monday, Espenilla told reporters that he wants to create "a financial system where no one gets left behind" and from which "criminal elements" are excluded.
