Global trade uptick boosts Asian manufacturing

HONG KONG Strengthening economies on both sides of the Pacific are lifting global trade, as well as Asia's manufacturing sector. Seven of the 12 economies surveyed by The Nikkei -- Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines -- posted highs for the year in their purchasing managers indexes in November.

A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while anything below signifies contraction.
