Local government offers temporary lodging to some, but anxiety is growing

SHENZHEN -- China's gross domestic product expanded by an inflation-adjusted 4.5% on the year in the January to March quarter, as restaurants and other services picked up following the end of the government's zero-COVID policy, the country's National Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday.

But production and sales of automobiles and home appliances were flat, and the outlook for exports remains murky.
