MUMBAI -- Senior civil servant Sanjay Malhotra has been appointed India's next central bank chief, the government said on Monday.

Malhotra is currently the revenue secretary who reports to the finance minister. He has been a civil servant with the Indian Administrative Service for over three decades. He will take over from Gov. Shaktikanta Das, whose tenure ends on Tuesday.
