NEW DELHI -- Another week of extreme weather in India has added to concerns about climate change, food supplies and persistent inflation that pose a political challenge heading into the country's election season.

The north of India has been hammered by torrential rains, causing flooding and landslides that have killed at least 80 people, according to local reports, mainly in the state of Himachal Pradesh and also in Uttarakhand.
